Observation Proposal

I am going to be observing a fitness trainer at the gym i work out at. I am going to see how he interacts during a workout session. I am going to be noticing how he talks to them and what he does with the person he is training. I will see if there are any differences from him training a male from a female. I am going to be noticing how the atmosphere is involved with the training too. I will possibly interview him and see why he does this and what are his feelings about it.

In Freshmen Seminar we are reading the book "Charles Darwin: His Life and Times." I think that the book is a somewhat easy read and not near as boring as I thought it would have been. W e are going through the book at a good pace, about fifty pages a week. Its not at all too much to read for a week span. We are given quizzes every week to make sure we are doing the reading, but the quizzes are really easy. I like the class in general too. Grubaugh seems like quite a professor and I am glad I was able to be in one of his classes this semester.
In biological anthropology and prehistory we have been going over powerpoints everyday it seems like. I get really tired in this class. We had to do an assignment answering ten questions about The Beak of the Finch. It was alot of reading but we did have a huge time frame to complete the assignment. I kept putting it off and saying I would get to it eventually. Well i got to it, three days before it was due. I really was mad at myself for waiting so long to do it because I had started to get sick that day. Point said, I am not going to wait til the last weekend to do an assignment we were given three weeks ago. It was just too much work at one time, and I had to waste an entire day basically doing the assignment.
Tommorrow in chemistry will be our first quiz of the semester. Up until this point we have been doing a "reveiw" of chapters one through four. I do not really say its a reveiw because I can barely remember some of the things he is going over. I have not had a chemistry class since my junior year in high school. I am not really nervous about the quiz, however im just very interested in seeing how his quizzes are. I like Dr. Freilich but I just feel like this is a lot of material. I looked over the homework that we have had to complete so far so I hope that will give me a good enough study guide for the quiz.

I decided to go to a movie with my cousin Thursday night and watch The Final Destination 3D. He works at the theatre so we were able to get in free with the glasses which was very convenient. This was my first 3D movie I had ever seen. When we got the 3D glasses, I was very suprised to see how they looked. I was expecting the old half red and half blue glasses, however they seemed to be more high tech and gave a much better picture. The movie itself was good, however I think the 3D made the movie. At some parts I was actually trying to touch an object that seemed to be right in front of me. Also, some of the parts did make me jump a little, because I would say something to my cousin and then something would just jump out and catch my off guard. Overall, I really liked the movie and was pleased with the 3D experience.

Today in class, Elliot and Bobby were to sit in the middle of the classroom and have a conversation. At the start, it seemed Elliot was the more nervous one and Bobby was the one that initiated the conversation. Both were laid back in the chairs and had their legs crossed. Also both of them were shaking one of their legs. Bobby was talking louder than Elliot and had more to say. Elliot was giving short answers at first and then started to open up more. Some of the audience members also took part in some of the conversation. When the topics were changed, both of them were thrown off guard it seemed, but started to relate; however, then the subject had changed again. It seemed as soon as they got a point to talk about, they had to start over. I thought that would have been really hard to do. At the end, both were kind of just looking around and waiting to end it. However, I do think that the two of them did find out some interesting things about each other they could relate to.

Observation Exercise 9/17/09

While watching the video at home, I was able to see so many more things than I had seen in class. I recognized more details and was able to relate more to myself. When he kept saying "No mom, I don't eat fish," he did not change his mind easily and was saying it very fast. That reminded me of myself sometimes when I'm with my mom. When I listened to the video I was able to realize that this conversation had happened before, because the son seemed to reply like this was not the first time she has asked. Also when I listened to the video I found out that the mom just wanted her son eat the fish for good reasons, but the son did not want any part of the fish. While watching the video I was able to see things like the son ignoring his mom at the beginning and his mom just trying to show him that fish is very healthy for him. While just listening to the video you can somewhat get a sense of the idea, however you would not get as much as if you were watching and listening. Watching the video a second time definitely gave me more of a clear picture of what was going on in the video and made me look out for most of the details I had missed in the first veiwing of the clip.

My new blog will be about me putting my two weeks notice in at my job. I worked at Dales Restaurant in Southaven, Mississippi. I had been a busser and expo there and have worked there for about a year and a half. One of the reasons I am deciding to quit is because of the distance. I think I need to find a job closer to where I live now. I also just got tired of the place. Everytime I came in to work I was always counting down the clock to when I can leave. The place just completely drained me. Everyone was sad to see I was leaving, however they knew I was doing it to better myself.

Autobiography of Charles Darwin

An autobiography matters because it is a history of someone's life written by that person. In an autobiography you can see where the author is coming from because it's their life. They tell you firsthand instead of someone else telling you. They can share their true feelings and insight about it. A biography is the history of someone's life written by a different person. A biography is still worth reading, however it will not be able to express that person's exact feelings. An autobiography is worth more to read, because the author could go into more detail of how he or she was feeling and thinking. If it was a biography, the author could not describe in explicit detail how the person was feeling or was thinking.

Autobiography Rough Draft 09/10/09

1. Quick anecdote about a time you were terrified/happiest/changed - a time ay which there was something AT STAKE.

My friends and I decided to go walking in some fields close to our neighborhood. We were walking for a while and then we came up on two snakes that were hiding. No one was really paying any attention until I looked down and told them to stop walking and look at the ground. They started to move towards us close; however, we were able to escape.

2. What does that say about you?

It says that I am outgoing and like to be around my friends. It also can say that i left when I saw the site of danger. I do not like to put myself ina situation that could be extremely harmful or fatal.

3. What is different about that than the way you would like to be perceived?

I would like to be perceived as brave and somewhat of a risk taker. I would not mind doing some dangerous things, just not involving snakes that could have been poisonous and attacked us.

4. What is it about the experience/anecdote that would make anyone be able to know the experience as something that they can feel/think/remember/understand?.... UNIVERSALITY

You could just imagine a snake appraoching you while you were just casually walking. It was a very intense situation. You could go walk into a field and look around and most likely come across a similar situation.

English Assignment 9/08/09

Writing Assignment on pg. 7

1. The last time I had to write a paper somewhat challenging was my senior year research paper on the death of John F. Kennedy. It had to be 2,000 words and have at least five sources.

2. My teacher wanted us to feel like we were doing a college paper to prepare us for the future. I started by gathering many sources to get some ideas. I started the paper right away after I had maintained an abundance of sources. I wanted to work on the paper everyday even it was for only five minutes.

3. It was an immense discovery, pounding into my hot head with every sliding, joyous step, that this ordinary adult evidently knew what I thought only children who trained at football knew: that you have to fling yourself at what you're doing, you have to point yourself, forget yourself, aim, dive.

He chased us through the backyard labyrinths of ten blocks before he caught us by our jackets.

2. He began perfunctorily. He says "You stupid kids." Ordinary Pittsburgh accent with his normal righteous anger and the usual common sense.

3. I see him as a man who was not quitting until he caught them. He was furious at the children for what they did.

Analyzing Assignment p.25
